Think Twice
By Cheryl A Principi
Gerri Hill is usually one of my go to reads for Lesbian Fiction. I enjoy her character's, "Love Waits", "The Killing Room", "No Strings Attached", and "Artist's Dream". This story has no character development. By page 40 you know how this cliche of a lesbian relationship is going to end and you don't even care. Don't recommend a purchase not even as an e book. She has so many others to choose from that you would enjoy.

F/F romance

Why is the synopsis on this book so vague?!

WARNING: theme "spoiler" ahead...

Not sure why the pregnancy theme here is left out of the blurb. This isn't a spoiler to me-- most of the story is about BEING PREGNANT. But for those who think EVERYTHING is a damn spoiler these days, I've left an alert, so calm down. Hell, I'd have picked up this book much sooner if I knew what it was really about. It's the best part of the book!!

Here we meet tall, lean, dark-haired Jordan Sims who is a mid 30ish power lesbian in Chicago's corporate financial sector. But this isn't about Chicago or her six-figure job... whatever the heck it actually is. We don't even get a job title.... c'mon, Gerri!! details, details, please... wish we had more character description and development on Jordan. All we really do know about her other than she is a stoic workaholic is that she likes her wine (Gerri does love her boozy leads, eh). No clue if she is masculine, feminine or what.

So Jordan takes a leave of absence from her upscale but lonely life and returns to her little coastal hometown in Texas when her younger brother is killed. It's been six years since her last visit, and she just doesn't come home much in general, but she's ready to offer all the support her family needs now.

Once home, Jordan is tasked with organizing her dead brother's belongings and prepping the successful family souvenir shop he managed to run without him. She soon finds she's in need of a little help.

Annie Thomas, a pretty 29 yr old blonde and one of her more responsible employees, steps up to do just that. Together they reorganize things and develop a trusting relationship. When Annie (who is also a struggling student and a divorcée) finds herself pregnant and unable to cope alone... Jordan invites her to stay in her extra room and looks after her. (Though, really. Are there still people like Annie's mom?! Okay, lol, maybe so. But with lesbianism/bisexuality being so trendy these days... this kind of characterization just feels so outdated and trite... unimaginative. She's straight out of Jenny's Wedding if you caught that mess.)

But the bulk of the story is Jordan and Annie's developing relationship as they work and live together.

Annie's hormones are maybe messing with her sexuality lol.... or maybe she's just never been as straight as she thinks. The very best thing about this story is the intimate moments these two share as they grow close. And I don't mean the sex. They just share these really sweet moments. It's a simple, predictable little story... but Gerri always knows how to pull off these genuine emotions and chemistry between her leads. I don't think the sex was as hot as I'd hoped for, though. Gerri coulda done A LOT more with horny and hormonal, I think...

I do love her blondes, though. I only wish there'd been more character description on the blonde as well. Damn shame I can picture Fat Larry more than the blonde!! pfft. My biggest disappointment in terms of Annie's appearance, however, is I think she shoulda had bigger boobs. And Jordan should have taken note. They are barely mentioned (same with her blond hair).... blasphemy!! Where's the boob appreciation, Gerri?! C'mon... she's pregnant!! It's a beautiful sexy thing!! A horny and hormonal hottie woulda taken advantage of this. Release that cleavage with the new maternity clothes-- bend over and linger in front of Jordan! lol... Oh, Gerri... more description on all the pretty parts, please! :P

Why are lesfic writers so afraid of nice, full, womanly breasts?! why why why... it's tragic...

At least Gerri's leads are eating a bit healthier now - Subway sandwiches, not just deep fried seafood, Mexican, and pizza, lol. (Have Gerri's leads not ever sustained on pizza and wine??? LOL)

For all its shortcomings... what intimately passes between these leads makes it all worthwhile. And I LOVED having a pregnant lead!! Gave it extra points for that.

Standard romance that will appeal to those who enjoy formulatic love stories

Standard romance that will appeal to those who enjoy formulatic love stories. While the plot is interesting, I found the characters bland. Too sweet and syrupy, and not true to life. There is very little conflict in the book, although the ex-husband does make an attempt. This is nowhere near as good as the author's "No Strings". I've given it an extra star because it is a pleasure to read a well written novel. There are so many out now that need a good editor.
