About the Author
Pablo Garcia-Loaeza is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at West Virginia University, where he specializes in Latin American literature and culture. He is the author of four other Dover Spanish Language titles.

Dover Spanish Really Gets the Conversation Started

I was taking an online course and thought I was making slow but appropriate progress. Because this book had full sentences and phrases that I would be using in travel and real life situations, I decided to buy it. For $2.00, this book has taught me more in a week than I learned in 8 weeks with Duolingo. Now instead of learning to say things such as, "My dog likes to drink water," and "The penguins don't like my sister's blue dress," I can actually order in restaurants, ask directions, shop, ask for help, etc. To be useful, you will either have to carry the book around with you, or make flashcards and memorize the questions and answers. I recommend both. The book also has pronounciation guides to improve your accent. If you are interested in conversation rather than grammar, you will really be pleased with this Dover edition.

great little book for the money

New edition includes helpful grammar topics as an additional chapter at the end of the book. We also have the Kindle version of the older Edition and these are very useful for us when traveling in Spanish-speaking countries. The content is divided by places you will use it (in a restaurant, at the airport, at the hotel, etc).

I ordered this for my boyfriend, who works in music with a lot of Spanish-speakers. It is helping him learn, leaps and bounds, and the convenient size makes it handy for keeping in a pocket, so he can get it out while they are playing. The guys wanted to know if they could get the same thing, but for learning English!

Trees in Urban Design Second Edition By Henry F. Arnold Reflecting the belief that urban life requires an "escape," city parks have long been designed in imitation of pastoral surroundings. Henry F. He encourages landscape architects and city planners to utilize trees, not as decoration, but as living building materials to create and reinforce urban spaces. The revised Second Edition adds practical value to the work, answering many of the questions that were raised as a result of the original volume. Trees in Urban Design, Second Edition, concentrates two new chapters on the more utilitarian issues of urban tree planting. Chapter Six deals substantively with the significant changes in urban tree-planting techniques that have evolved since the original edition was printed. Chapter Seven deals with the revolution in urban forestry that has taken place during this same period, the economics of urban tree planting, and the essential government role in this immensely important work. In this way, the book has become more instructive and, therefore, more useful as a source of information. After a brief historical sketch of urban tree use, Arnold takes a broad look at American cities and establishes a fresh design approach based on classical principles. The same examples are repeated in a variety of contexts to demonstrate the effect of different design principles. The book explains why the science of plant ecology is of limited value in formulating rules for planting trees in cities. It clarifies the need to reevaluate the claims made for ecology in an urban context. Obstacles to effective tree plantings — such as municipal policies — are discussed, along with ways to change these obstacles into opportunities for better urban design and increased tree plantings. The book also suggests a realistic method of budgeting for tree planting and maintenance. Trees in Urban Design, Second Edition, provides bold, practical solutions to important problems of economics, planning, and maintenance of urban planting, and offers effective programs to raise urban tree management to its essential place in the urban megastructure. About the Author
About the Author Henry F. Arnold is an experienced landscape architect who began his career as a land use planner for the Delaware County Planning Commission, in Pennsylvania. He then practiced landscape architecture for nine years as an associate and then as a partner in the firm of Dan Kiley and Partners and has since been involved in his own practice in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1970 he served as a consultant to the Ministry of National Development in Singapore. During 1975 and 1976 he was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Urban Design at Pratt Institute. Mr. Arnold studied forestry and landscape architecture at Pennsylvania State University and received his degree in landscape architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.

Essential reading for landscape architects and designers

As a practicing urban designer, I reference this book on a weekly basis. It provides a clear and concise understanding of how trees perform in urban conditions, from conceptual use in spatial definition to planting details. Many of Arnold's ideas were revelations to me, even after five years of training in landscape architecture. Unfortunately, the volume is somewhat dated, especially in its notes on current cultivar disease resistance. Still, highly recommended.

About the Author
After a successful career in the aerospace industry Pat Wiley began his second career as a writer at the New School for Creative Writing. A series of short stories followed about his adventures sailing his boat on a two year, three thousand-mile journey to the islands of the Caribbean and South America. From his journey, he wrote his first novel EYEWITNESS a nautical murder mystery.

The Sinking of the MV Le JOOLA: Africa's Titanic is his first book. The non-fiction narrative is the result of two-years of research into one of the worst maritime tragedies in recorded history--a tragedy, which tore at the soul of a country. His interviews with survivors and extensive in-country research revealed the shameful loss of life and incredible accounts of survival that form the heart of the book.

Pat is a licensed Captain and takes time out from his writing to teach sailing and boat building to inner-city children. He resides in North Carolina with his wife, an accomplished painter and sculptor.

Thoroughly researched document of a mind-blowing disaster

A competently written book and an important document of an incredible tragedy which has been under-reported by the international press. Wiley has done a remarkable job of outlining aspects of the cultures most affected by this terrible event and presenting the survivors and victims in a respectful manner that paints them as three dimensional. After learning more about these people - their backgrounds, their aspirations, their families and their responsibilities - I was very apprehensive when I approached the part of the book which dealt with the capsize itself - he had painted the passengers of the Joola so vividly that I dreaded the details of their experience. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the subject of ships and ferries, wrecks, West Africa in general, Senegal in particular - although I believe the stories captured have a human interest that goes beyond any of these niches.

The Cover Art Is Misleading!!! This is Very Sophisticated, Work of Literary Art.

This book like many other disasters gives you some background information ,and in this case it covers some people who live in small remote African town. The author's writing style is both engaging and empathetic thereby producing a well written and moving book. I have read hundreds of books in my life and this one will also have a special place. In short, it is worth every penny and every second of your time.

SUPERB!! Well-written account of the Joola!

Imagine this scenario: A shipwreck with as many victims as the Titanic -- no, more victims in fact -- took place in 2002. And the world didn't hear about it.

Isn't that just chilling?

MV Le Joola is the name of this ship of the past. On a tragic night just over a decade ago, the ship had capsized, completely turned itself upside-down in the water. Hundreds and hundreds of people aboard were either instantly killed in the tumble, or drowned soon afterward.

64 survived.

1864 died.

In modern-day relative terms, think of the almost 3,000 people who died during the attack on the World Trade Center, and how greatly the huge country of the United States felt the impact. Now think of a very small country, Senegal, and how wiping out almost 2,000 of their population must have impacted their lives. In truth, every family in Senegal (and the surrounding Casamance region) was affected tragically.

Why didn't the world truly hear of the disaster? There are many answers to this question.

It happened in a third-world country.

More lives could have easily been saved, but they weren't.

Senegal's government tried to cover up infringing facts.

This book holds so many descriptions and details of the shipwreck. I enjoyed reading it. For anyone interested in maritime history, this is definitely a must-read.

Pat Wiley has written the ultimate book on the MV Le Joola. After hearing of the ship, he visited Senegal 3 times to collect survivor accounts. He has done a superb job putting this book together into a complete account of what really happened about the Joola.

Fun read

I loved catching up with the characters from the original Royals of Monterra stories. Ms. Connolly definitely remained true to the characters, their voice, and personalities. As someone who enjoyed following the births of the royal babies in England, it was fun to read about what that might have been like for them "behind the scenes".

While I did enjoy the book, I couldn't quite give it 5 stars. There were some grammar errors, and while there were main section breaks (dividing up the trimesters---chapter five's title "The Seventh Trimester" really cracked me up), there weren't any natural dividers within chapters indicating a change of location, which was kind of hard to track at times. My one other issue was with Kat's constant pregnancy complaints. Hey, I have four kids. I know how that goes---particularly that last month. And while I appreciate the author's intent to keep things as realistic as possible, it is a fiction story. Some of that was a bit repetitive and could've been left out. Just my opinion, mind. There may be others who disagree.

I've enjoyed the author's other novels and look forward to reading more.

A charming extended epilogue to Royal Date

I was a little weary of a sequel coming from a different author but this was still a very fun, enjoyable read. I fell in love with the characters from Sariah Wilson's "Royal Date" that I just wanted more of their story. Royal Delivery really functions as an extended epilogue and focuses on the fears, challenges, and highlights of a pregnancy (or two) in a loving family. This book was charming, funny, and lovely.

My only critique is that the voice of Kat was different from Wilson's version. Connolly's Kat is more sassy and witty, which although I thoroughly enjoyed didn't seem to pull from Kat's previous character development. (Of course though, this story takes place more than a year after Wilson's novel and the character could have gained more confidence.)

This is my favorite story in the The Royals of Monterra kindleworld so far. It seems like it could have been written by Sariah Wilson. The characters have same feel to them.

It is funny caring, snarky and tender as we see Kat go through her pregnancy. She is Queen Kat now. The world is watching her. The King is willing to do anything for her.

I would like to read more books by Rebecca Connolly.
