ROBERT C. OWEN is a professor in the Department of Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University–Daytona Beach. He teaches courses in aviation operations, law, and history and conducts research in national security affairs independently and as an adjunct to the Rand Corporation and the Air Force Research Institute. Owen holds a master’s degree in African studies from UCLA and a PhD in history from Duke University. He lives in Port Orange, Florida.

A fundamental review of air mobility

Air Mobility is a comprehensive, detailed survey of American air operations. It covers not only air transport but the entire spectrum of aviation operations across all services. Mr Owen delves into the details of doctrinal disputes and technological developments that were important factors. He shows quite clearly that the United States was the only nation capable of developing the complex system that is modern American air operations and how the country accomplished that development. He is especially good at showing the roles played by the multitude of aviation personalities, including William Tunner, Joe Smith and George Kenney. This book should be read by every USAF airlifter and the aviation planners and executors of all services as well as anyone interested in how and why American air mobility is the succes that is demonstrated daily and worldwide.
